Learn about the ancient Basilica that was started by Constantine the Great in the 4th century, and completed by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century. For 1,000 years it was the world’s largest cathedral. Today, it has been converted to a museum. Admire the impressive dome and minarets, as well as the beautiful mosaics, sculptures and columns inside.

Your next stop will be the legendary Sultan Ahmed Mosque, better known around the world as the Blue Mosque. Get up close to this symbol of Istanbul and see the vibrant blue tiles that adorn its interior walls. Stroll around its beautiful courtyard, and see the 6 graceful minarets.

Continue to the Hippodrome, site of chariot races during the Byzantine Empire. Admire the 3 remaining monuments; the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, and the Column of Constantine. After early afternoon pickup from your hotel in Eceabat, hop inside an air-conditioned minivan for your journey to nearby Gallipoli. Stop for lunch at a seaside restaurant, and then listen as your guide sets the scene for your tour as you travel onward to Gallipoli proper. Hear the background to the disastrous World War I campaign that saw largely Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) forces land here in 1915 to push back Turkish forces. On arrival, set off with your guide to visit the main sites. Gaze at Brighton Beach, where the ANZACs originally intended to land, and see ANZAC Cove, where they came ashore. Visit Beach Cemetery, whose graves include that of John Simpson Kirkpatrick, famous for using donkeys to evacuate the wounded, and then stroll around Ari Burnu Cemetery, just north of ANZAC Cove. Pay your respects at the Lone Pine Cemetery, hearing how the Australians captured the site in August 1915, and then explore the original trenches at Johnston's Jolly. Lastly, visit the Turkish Memorial, Chunuk-Blair Memorial, and The Nek, site of the famous Light Horse charge depicted in the 1981 movie, Gallipoli. Day 10: Canakkale - Istanbul

Morning visit to Ancient city of Troy… If you come to Troy expecting a rebuilt ancient city along the lines of Ephesus, you'll be disappointed. The site resembles an overgrown archaeological dig and it's very difficult to imagine what the ancient city would have looked like. Fortunately, an informative audio guide helps to evoke the ancient city for those who are visiting without a tour guide. As you approach the ruins, take the stone steps up on the right. These bring you out on top of what was the outer wall of Troy VIII/IX, from where you can gaze on the fortifications of the east wall gate and tower of Troy VI. Go back down the steps and follow the boardwalk to the right, between thick stone walls and up a knoll, from where you can look at some original (as well as some reconstructed) red-brick walls of Troy II/III. The curved protective roof above them is the same shape and height as the Hisarlik mound before excavations began in 1874. Continue following the path, past the northeast bastion of the heavily fortified city of Troy VI, the site of a Graeco-Roman Troy IX Temple of Athena and further walls of Troy II/III. You can make out the stone foundations of a megaron (building with porch) from the same era. End of the tour, return to Istanbul.
