Indian Embassy in Quito, Ecuador is an output of the relations which India has maintained with Ecuador with some interruptions when Ecuador closed its Embassy in India in the late seventies owing to financial constraints. Embassy of India is having immense amount of goodwill in Ecuador for India and its culture with a number of Yoga institutions, ashrams and meditation centres in various parts of Ecuador. Relations with the Embassy of India was consolidated when the prominent city of Plaza was renovated, beautifully decorated and renamed as Plaza Republica de la India and inaugurated by Ambassador Smt Nilima Mitra and the Mayor of Quito Mr Paco Moncayo jointly and the function was followed by an Odissi dance recital by Smt Ranjana Gauhar. The relations between India and Ecuador further enhanced when Secretary (External Affairs) visited Ecuador for bilateral Foreign Office Consultations in 2005 and Minister of State (External Affairs), Mr. Anand Sharma visited in 2007.
