Relations between Indian Embassy in Oslo, Norway and Norwegian Embassy in India are cordial and friendly marked by various bilateral treaties and agreements and visits of important personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru in 1910 as a student, Sarojini Naidu in 1920, Rabindranath Tagore in 1926, Mother Teresa who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. However, the diplomatic relations between India and Norway were established during the Prime Ministership of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947 when Norwegian Foreign Minister confirmed that the Norwegian Government agreed in principle to establish diplomatic relations between Norway and India. Since then India and Norway have signed a number of bilateral treaties in various fields including tourism and culture. The first Indo-Norwegian Joint Commission Meeting was held in Oslo in 2005 when External Affairs Minister Shri K. Natwar Singh visited Norway. Norway offers many tourist attractions like incredible wilderness hiking, year-round skiing, and some of the world's most scenic ferry, bus and train rides.
