Indian Embassy in Singapore and Singapore Embassy of India are the output of an age old relations dated back to the Chola period when Rajendrachola Deva I named the city of Singapore as 'Singapura which means 'Lion City' in 10th century AD. However, the formal diplomatic relations between India and Singapore were established in 1965 when Singapore became independent. However, both the Embassy of India and Embassy of Singapore share much in common like both are members of the Non-Aligned Movement which was founded by Jawaharlal Nehru, the G-77, and the Commonwealth etc. The economic tie up between Indian Embassy and Singapore Embassy reached to its apex when India has become Singapore's most strategic and 11th largest trading partner amongst the ASEAN countries. In 2007, many minister's level meetings have been taken place between India and Singapore which further deepened the relation between the Indian Embassy and Singapore Embassy.
