The working of Indian Embassy in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Thailand Embassy in India are the result of India's historical relation with Thailand which can be traced back to the first millennium BC. Both Embassy of India and Embassy of Thailand are promoting the indo-Thai culture marked by the Hindu-Buddhist elements in Thai society. It is because of the cordial relations between India and Thailand that many works of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Rabindra Nath Tagore have been translated into Thai. A Cultural Agreement between India and Thailand was signed in 1977 to strengthen the relationship between the Embassy of India and Embassy of Thailand. Recently, many high level visits between India and Thailand have been taken place and the Prime Minister of Thailand held bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of India which further enhanced the relationship between Indian Embassy and Thailand Embassy.
