The relations between Indian Embassy, Washington DC, USA and the American Embassy in India are friendly and cordial since the collapse of Soviet Union and inception of Indian economic liberalization in 1991. The two giants of largest democracy in the world come close to strengthen the cultural, economic and diplomatic relations between the Embassy of India and Embassy of America. The high level summit was held between the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the President George W. Bush to establish the global and strategic partnership between the India and USA which also increased the relationship between the Indian Embassy and American Embassy. However, both the Embassy of India and Embassy of America are promoting the values of democracy, human rights and many bilateral exchange programs. At present more than 76,000 Indian students are residing in USA and over 1800 American students are pursuing different courses in India.

Applications for all consular services (like issue of new/duplicate passports, Visa, renewals and miscellaneous services on passports, legalization/attestation of documents) are accepted between 09:30 AM and 12:30 PM. The passports and other documents, irrespective of date or time of submission, are delivered only between 04:30 PM and 05:15 PM on working days (Embassy Holidays). This time schedule does not apply to services where prior approval is required from the authorities in India.
