Orissa, one of the 28 States of India, bounded by the Bay of Bengal on the East, Madhya Pradesh on the West and Andhra Pradesh on the South with a multi dimensional, multi colored, many splendoured, vibrant and boisterous modern state all set on its journey in the present millennium to make its presence and voice felt in the nooks and crannies of the world through the universal cult of brotherhood, its unique cultural heritage, astonishing natural landscapes, luxuriant forests and wild life, sprawling lakes, bountiful coastline, wide range of tribes and colorful canvass of art and culture.
Orissa is one of the best examples of fusion of traditional Indian art reflected in its many temples and monuments which are famous across the world are Sun Temple in Konark, Jagannath Temple in Puri, Raja Rani Temple in Bhubaneswar. Ratha Yatra festival in June-July in Jagannath Temple in Puri is a big draw for tourists. There are a number of Mountain springs and hotspring in Orissa such as the Badaghagara and Sanaghagara in Keonjhar districts, Satpasajya in Denkanal districts, the Chandikhole in Cuttack distrcts, the Barunei in Khorda distrcts etc. are famous all over the world for tourist attractions. Most of the rivers have waterfalls such as the Barehipani and Joranda (Similipal) in Mayurbhanja districts, Sanaghagara and Badaghagara in Keonjhar district, Rabandhara in Kalahandi district etc. are some of the major waterfalls of Orissa. The Chillika Lake is blackish water lagoon located in the southern part of the Orissa coastal plane. Ansupa is a sweet water lake located in Banki of Cuttack district. Kanjia is another sweet water lake with about 134 acres of area located in Nandankanan of Cuttack districts near Bhubaneswar.
One of the greatest natural habitats in the world, giving the tourists an excellent opportunity to see nature’s bounty are Nandankanan Zoo and Sanctuary or the Garden of Gods, Similipal National Park, The Chandaka Elephant Reserve, Bhitarkanika sanctuary, Tikarpara sanctuary, Lakhari valley sanctuary, Karlapat and many more. Most of the state's attractions are close to each other, and convenient access is provided out of the state capital, Bhubaneshwar. The capital itself is steeped in the roots of the traditions of its glorious past, without being overwhelmed by it.
