Sikkim, the paradise on earth where Mother Nature has bestowed her bounty with wondrously gorgeous and striking scenery bounded by blue green hills, cascading rapids, tripping rivers, carpets of flowers and exotic blooms spread below the Mount Khanchendzonga, the third highest mountain in the world, and revered by the Sikkimese as their protective deity. Sikkim offers her visitors a rare and singular experience with mountain peaks, lush valleys, waterfalls, fast flowing rivers, lakes etc. Nowhere in the world in such a small area can one find flora and fauna of all varieties - Tropical to the Alpines.
Sikkim's botanical and zoological richness is awe-inspiring, boasting of more than 4000 species of plants and 30% of all the birds found in the Indian subcontinent. Sikkim's greatest enticement is Mt. Khanchendzonga famous for trekkers and mountaineers. Sikkim has the most beautiful natural lakes in the world which is a domain of sky lacquered lakes, glacial valleys and chiseled peaks. River rafting enthusiasts have two rivers the Teesta and Rangit gushing through paradisiacal country. The Teesta experience takes you rafting from Makha down to Sirwani and Sirwani to Rangpo. The Rangit expedition is from Sikip to Nayabazar to Melli. Kayaking is undertaken on the Teesta and is arranged for special groups. Mountain Biking is another adventure that has been recently introduced in Sikkim. Sikkim's near about 200 monasteries or Gompas have not only been influencing the cultural heritage and lifestyle of the people, but also demonstrates the ancient rituals in practice. Cold winters in the month of November to February. It is between the month of March and early May when sunshine is quite abundant. Though summer is officially from May to October, Sikkim is almost always wet due to the heavy monsoons, with rains at times continuing for days on ends.
