India Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique and Mozambique Embassy in India enjoy traditionally cordial relations of 500 years old. As per the objective of Indian foreign policy enunciated by Jawaharlal Nehru to extended moral support to all those countries in their freedom struggle against colonialism, India supported Mozambique in its freedom struggle against colonial rule and the close relation was developed when Mozambique gained independence in 1975. India was among the first countries to open its Embassy in Mozambique immediately after independence. Since then many ministerial level meetings have been taken place between India and Mozambique to strengthen the bilateral relations in the fields of tourism and culture, agriculture, industry & trade, higher education, science & technology and health. However, in 2001, Mozambique opened its Mission in New Delhi and in 2002 its first High Commissioner reached Delhi.
