Indian Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia and Serbian Embassy in India are the result of India's close and friendly relations with former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) since the days of the foundation of Non-Aligned Movement by the first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Tito of Yugoslavia. After the collapse of SFRY, India recognized and maintained diplomatic relations with all the newly emerged countries including Serbia. Besides the political relations, Indian Embassy is also promoting the cultural relations with the Embassy of Serbia with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Serbian Ministry of Culture. Both Embassy of India and Embassy of Serbia are also strengthening the cooperation between the Foreign Service Institute of India and its counterpart in Serbia.
