Vadodara Travel GuideVadodara, one of the oldest itineraries of India Travel is known by various names as Chandanavati, after a local Rajput ruler. The city underwent periodic renaming, from Varhavati, Vatpatraka, Baroda and in 1971, to Vadodra is located in the west of Indian state of Gujarat. It is often referred to “Sanskari-Nagar” or “Cultured City” or “cultural capital” of Gujarat renowned for its palaces, museums and parks. This city was ruled by Hindus, Mughals, Maratha, and finally the British. It was only during the Maratha period under the Gaekwad this city became the capital of the powerful rulers.

Vadodara offers many tourist destinations like Sayaji Bagh within which one can see the Baroda Museum and Art Gallery. Some other tourist attractions are Dhumkal which is a sloth bear sanctuary, which also houses the tiger and leopard; Kirti Mandir also known as Temple of Flame having a majestic monumental building; Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is an important tourist spot, housing the royal collection of copies of European masters; Makarpura Palace is a beautiful palace designed in the Italianate style, which is presently used as a training school of the Indian Air Force; Nazarbagh Palace is one of the oldest palaces built in old classic style by Malhar Rao Gaekwad. Pratap Vilas Palace is an extravagant and flamboyant building in the Indo-Saracenic style; Vadodara Museum and Picture Gallery is famous for an impressive collection on art and archaeology, natural history, geology, ethnology, artifacts, ancient manuscripts and Egyptian antiquities.

Some famous excursions of Vadodara are Champaner famous for Jama Masjid, which is one of the finest mosques to be found in Gujarat. Dakor is famous for its Temple of Ranchodrai and is a sacred place for the followers of Lord Krishna. Pavagadh Fort is also known as the birthplace of Gujarat's famous musician, Baiju, who preceded Tansen. Tambekarwada possesses probably the best specimens of mural paintings, adorning walls, doors and ceilings of the building called Tambekarwads. The Town of Dabohi is known for its 13th century Hindu military architecture. Ahmedabad city is known for its rich past and its association with Mahatma Gandhi. The city offers to the traveler a unique style of architecture, which is a blend of Hindu and Islamic styles. Town of Anand is famous for its Amul range of dairy products. Bharuch is famous for its monuments and the River Narmada that flows through it.
