West Bengal Travel Guide

West Bengal, a state in east India has its capital as Kolkata, stretches from Bangladesh in eastern border to northeast states of Assam, Sikkim and the country Bhutan, Orissa to its southwest, Jharkhand and Bihar to the west and Nepal to the northwest. It is a home to Poets, Thinkers and Film Directors of international fame and five Nobel Laureates – Ronald Ross, Sir C.V. Raman, Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa and Amartya Sen.

West Bengal is the only one, which has all the three major tourist attractions - mountains, sea and forest. Darjeeling conjures visions of serenity, of vibrant green hills steeped in splendor, a land of breathtaking beauty, flaming red rhododendrons, the sparkling white magnolias, the miles of undulating hillsides covered with emerald green tea bushes, the exotic forests of silver fir crowned by the majestic Himalayas the most magnificent hill resorts in the world. Siliguri may called the Gateway of Eastern India as it is the main transit point for going to Darjeeling hill region, Sikkim, Bhutan, Eastern Nepal and Assam. The East Himalayas, the land of infinite charm with scenic views of Kanchenjunga, bewildering greenery, tea gardens, adventure spots, trekking and lots more are catching spot of tourists. Breathtaking Beaches present some beautiful options in sea resorts – Digha, Shankarpur, Junput, Bakkhali, Sagardwip. West Bengal’s wild life offers a fascinating diversity of terrain, flora and fauna and home to the World Heritage Site – Sunderbans. West Bengal has a tropical climate with six seasons - springs, summer, the rainy, autumn, mild winter and severe winter.
